Seacourt Silver Sabre 2012 won by Ehsan

The first Thursday in May saw the annual Silver Sabre competition take place at Seacourt.

This year saw some old faithfuls return (you know who you are Andy Southwell), some young blood (by the name of Richard) and Seacourt’s newest star Ehsan, alongside the usual suspects.
The competition took the format of a pool unique followed by direct elimination.

The semi finals were particularly hotly contested between Ehsan and Eryk and Rafal and Andy. Ehsan and Rafal went through to the final which was a fantastic finale to the evening, seeing Ehsan emerge as the victor.

Gold at the Brighton Open

On the 6th of May 2012 Eryk, Ehsan and Gary went to the Brighton open and fenced against some tough competition.

Maciej was on hand to offer expert guidance, moral support and friendly face for our fencers

Gary fought bravely but eventually succumbed to a fencer known only to us as ‘Skellington Wellington’ and he finished in the top 8 out of 50 épéeists. A great result!

24 Sabreurs entered the competition and the Sabre Duo managed to compete admirably with Eryk coming 14th before finally being knocked out in fierce battle in his 2nd DE.

Ehsan’s performance however, was the highlight of the day, winning the gold for Portsmouth. He hopes the club name will soon inspire fear in the competitors!

Chichester Open 2012

A successful epee training day

On the warmest day so far this year 5 members of the club plus 1 visitor from Chichester attended an epee training day in Portsmouth with coach Richard Bonehill from the Truro fencing club.

We did a warm-up with a dancing bent and a hotly contested version of Simon Says. Then there was a queue lesson session.

After lunch we all had an individual lesson whilst the others free fenced.

We ended up with a mini competition which was won by Spencer.

Film Premiere from Seacourt fencer

Seacourt fencer Chris Jupp has directed a small-budget thriller called All The Fear of the Fair which he hopes will become a British Blockbuster.

The film is having its premier at the No 6 cinema in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard on 27 May 2012. Tickets are on sale for the premier which includes a black-tie champagne reception.

Ticket prices for the movie premiere are priced at only £10.00 each with all proceeds going to a brilliant and worthy cause, the charity Reach – Association for Children with Upper Limb Deficiency.
