On Saturday 24 November 2012 two intrepid fencers from Portsmouth & Southsea FC travelled up to London to take part in a navy knockout competition. Erky Rose was fencing sabre and Naddean Chambers was fencing foil in her first competition.
Eryk fenced really well, particularly against navy fencer Keith Bowers who only just beat Eryk 5-4. Eryk came 3rd overall in the sabre which is a great result for the Portsmouth lad.
It was Naddean’s first competition and she has only been fencing for about 9 weeks so it was very brave of her to step into the world of competition so soon. However, despite being new to the sport, she did fantastically well and fenced very neatly and with good technique – Val will be very proud! Her efforts were rewarded with 6th place out of 9 which is a very creditable result.
