This year’s Hampshire Sabre competition came to an exciting finale this Sunday with the team competition. This year there were four teams – two from Espada, one from the Royal Navy and one from Seacourt. The Seacourt team were Carl Morris, Jared Thornton, Emma Nicholas and Luce Wright.
Being number one seeds, the Seacourt Team were up first against Espada B. Despite a couple of tricky fights, the team won the match fairly easily and went through to the final against Espada A. This time it was neck and neck, with some great individual performances, particularly from husband and wife-to-be Jared and Emma. Carl was, as ever, the reliable backbone to the team, picking up points wherever they were needed and spurring everyone on. The final fight was as close as could be with Jared coming on at 40-39, but he fenced with real composure and confidence winning easily to give Seacourt the overall victory.
A really great day was had by all. Thanks to Marilyn and co. for organising.
